Honors College early action admission decisions will be released soon, and we are SO excited to meet the new cohort of the class of 2025! We understand that it is a trying time for admitted students, and we want to make sure that you know that we are here for YOU. Don't miss the opportunity to casually drop in and say “hi!” - our student Honors Ambassadors will be participating in weekly drop-in Zoom sessions to answer your questions about Honors and the Honors student experience. This opportunity is available to you every Friday afternoon at 4:00 in February and March. Please email me for the Zoom link. Welcome to Honors!!!
Major Mixers are informal Zoom conversations designed to help Honors Students connect with peers interested in similar areas of research, but who do not necessarily have the exact same major. Embodying the interdisciplinary spirit of Honors, these mixers allow students to interact across disciplinary boundaries. Students get to decide where they "fit in." Participants will meet each other, share their interests, have fun, and hopefully walk away with new friends and the opportunity to stay connected via GroupMe. We’ll be hosting Major Mixers on a weekly basis, so there will be plenty of opportunities to students to participate! Click on READ MORE for the full schedule.
Honors Book Club will be kicking off on February 1. We will be reading A Million Aunties, by Alecia McKenzie. The book is available full-text online at JMU Libraries through EBSCOhost Ebooks. If you are interested in participating in Book Club, read all about it and sign up to participate HERE. We are mixing up the format this semester so that Book Club is a flexible experience - you will be able to participate asynchronously and/or in weekly Zoom chats as your schedule allows, and you don't have to commit to one format or the other. It's like a choose your own adventure Book Club! We hope you'll join us!
I recruit for Honors Ambassadors twice a year, and it's that time again! If you are interested in connecting 1:1 with prospective students, in representing JMU and Honors in CHOICES, and generally in singing the praises of Honors I would love for YOU to join this esteemed group of super volunteers!
Honors Ambassadors is made of up diverse students whose backgrounds and majors speak to the wide array of prospective students interested in JMU. We specifically hope that BIPOC, first generation, and LGBTQIA+ students will want to join our Ambassador community. We enthusiastically encourage students with Spanish language speaking ability to apply. We will be adding approximately 5-10 new Ambassadors to our group with spring recruitment. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on February 1. Interviews will be held the week of February 8. In order to apply, CLICK HERE. Questions? I'm always here to provide answers! |
