Virtual Open House will be held on October 15 at 5:00. Prospective students can access the Zoom by visiting the Honors page on the Office of Admissions website. The program will include a brief introduction to Honors by yours truly, with an open Q&A session featuring five student Honors Ambassadors representing different academic colleges. The Ambassadors are so excited to answer prospective student questions, so please don't hold back! We're excited to hear what's on your mind, and to let you know what a wonderful community you'll find in JMU Honors!
Our second Factfulness conversation is scheduled for October 15 at 4:00 p.m. This informal program will feature an Honors alum with professional experience doing research relating to climate change, Dr. Craig Ramseyer ('09), Assistant Professor of Geography at Virginia Tech. Dr. Ramseyer's primary area of research focuses on tropical rainfall and how climate change is likely to change drought and flooding.
Join this Zoom session to hear our panelist's views of cultivating a factful mindset and how factfulness helps him in his efforts to understand and counteract global climate change. Please RSVP to receive your Zoom log-in information. JMU Honors is excited to kick off our Fall Family Fridays series with a synchronous Zoom lecture exploring JMU conspiracy theories. The lecture will be presented by Dr. Michael Davis, Executive Advisor to President Alger, on Friday, October 9 at 12 p.m. Prior to his work in the President's Office, Dr. Davis spent 11 years as a faculty member in the School of Communication Studies, where he taught a popular class on the rhetoric of conspiracy theories. Join this fun and light-hearted lecture to hear about JMU-specific conspiracies, learn where they came from, and whether any of them are true! RSVP for the Zoom link.
Honors Trivia returns on October 6 at 8 p.m.! The champion of our first trivia battle was Addy King. Congratulations! While Addy is undoubtedly loving her bragging rights, the opportunity is on the table for a NEW champion! Will it be you?!?
Trivia uses the Kahoot! platform. It will take less than half an hour, and you'll leave smarter... maybe.... There will be 20 questions in four categories: Traveling on the Interstate, Seagulls, Ice Cream, and Occupational Songs. Hmmm. Wonder how to study for that? Want to play? Please RSVP at www.tinyurl.com/Fall2020OctTrivia. |
