In these trying times, we need a boost of looking on the bright side. The Honors College fall movie night series will feature movies known for their resilience messages. You'll see characters overcoming the odds, excelling in the face of hardship, and living their dreams. The first movie we'll feature will be Thursday, September 25 at 9:00 p.m. We'll watch Will Smith's based-on-real-life movie The Pursuit of Happyness. In case you're unfamiliar with the plot, here's a quick description from IMDb:
"Based on a true story about a man named Christopher Gardner. Gardner has invested heavily in a device known as a "bone density scanner". He feels like he has it made selling these devices. However, they do not sell well as they are marginally better than x-ray at a much higher price. As Gardner works to make ends meet, his wife leaves him and he loses his apartment. Forced to live out in the streets with his son, Gardner continues to sell bone density scanners while concurrently taking on an unpaid internship as a stockbroker, with slim chances for advancement to a paid position. Before he can receive pay, he needs to outshine the competition through 6 months of training, and to sell his devices to stay afloat." Participants in Movie Night will use Netflix Play, a Chrome extension that synchronizes watch times while enabling a chat function for viewers. Hopefully participants will be able to enjoy watching The Pursuit of Happyness together while engaging in intellectually stimulating conversations and reflections via the chat feature. If you are interested in joining us for Movie Night in September, please RSVP. All participants will be added to a GroupMe. You will receive a Netflix Play link via the GroupMe so that you can log-in and participate! Comments are closed.
